Power Songs for 2018

“Perfect Symphony” by Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli. I have to thank my friend FS for bringing this song to my attention. He introduced me to Andrea Bocelli, the Italian tenor, in the mid-90’s as he was coming into music stardom. The YouTube link has over 57 million views, and I can’t listen to it enough. It is an orchestral version of “Perfect,” a song from Ed Sheeran’s latest album. The video was shot in Andrea Bocelli’s Tuscan villa last October. You’ll also catch a glimpse of his two sons who are big Ed Sheeran fans. The first time was a goosebumps and tears moment.

“Stand up for Something” by Andra Day and Common. This song is from the soundtrack for the movie Marshall. I heard it last night on Colbert, and it is Andra Day at her finest. I first fell in love with her voice when I heard her sing “Rise Up” at the 2016 Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. Oh, that seems so long ago… In this version with Common, at the 3:00 minute mark, he changes the lyrics to take a few jabs at Trump. It is an incredible power anthem song. If you haven’t heard it before, I hope it moves you too.
