My Body – My New Favorite Song

It’s been several months since I’ve been obsessed with a song. My new love is “My Body” by Young the Giant. Major confession (please don’t judge me): I heard this song recently on The Voice. Not only that, the song was released almost ten years ago. Where have I been? Anyway, it’s not just the lyrics that grab you; it has a beat that makes you want to put it on replay and dance around your house.

Whenever a song hits me, I want to know more. Young the Giant is an American band whose inspiration for the song came at the end of a frustrating day. According to singer Sameer Gadhia, he said to the guys, “Why don’t we just jam something out, like the most ridiculous thing you could imagine? It doesn’t even have to make sense. Just yell it out, because it means you’re releasing your tension.” Ten minutes later the entire song had been created. (This reminds me a bit of how “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple was created.)

The catchy lyrics are:

My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
